Conformation Poodles

The purpose of conformation showing in conformation is to evaluate breeding stock.  Conformation in dogs simply means the externally visible details of the dog’s structure and appearance.  This is compared by the judge to the written “Breed Standard” for that breed.  The conformation is an indication of the ability of that particular dog to produce quality purebred puppies, and that is what is being judged in the ring, and so mixed-breed or neutered and spayed purebreds are not eligible to compete. Many AKC clubs also offer handling classes to teach owners how to present their purebred dog to a judge at a dog show. (American Kennel Club, 2017)

There are several venues where Poodles may be shown.  These include AKC (American Kennel Club), UKC (United Kennel Club), CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) in North America.  Many other countries have Kennel Clubs.  Each one will have a Poodle breed standard by which poodles are judged in that country.

Each kennel club has their own particular set of rules on how to obtain championship.  It is important that you research this in each venue and carefully follow the rules in order to obtain a championship in that venue.
